About this opportunity
The 2026 America First Trade Promotion Program (AFTPP), administered by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service, seeks to expand exports of U.S. agricultural commodities through competitive financial assistance awards. Eligible applicants include nonprofit agricultural trade organizations, state regional trade groups, agricultural cooperatives, and state agencies who will submit marketing plans through the Unified Export Strategy (UES) system. The program will evaluate applications based on strategic planning, management, implementation, and alignment with the America First agenda, with a specific focus on comprehensive market development activities. Critically, all U.S. agricultural commodities except tobacco are eligible for consideration, and applicants must adhere to specific cost-share requirements of at least 10% for generic activities and an equivalent amount for branded activities. The application deadline is January 23, 2026, at 5:00 pm EDT, with submissions requiring detailed marketing strategies and comprehensive export promotion plans.
The federal grant opportunity has a total funding pool of $285,000,000, with approximately 60 awards anticipated across various agricultural sectors. Successful applicants will be required to submit quarterly performance reports and financial documentation, with potential USDA/FAS site visits and monitoring throughout the project period. Notably, China (including Hong Kong and Macau) is explicitly identified as an ineligible market for program activities. The performance period and specific project timelines will be determined through individual cooperative agreements, with potential multi-year implementation strategies. Geographically, the program aims to support export expansion across diverse international markets, excluding the specified Chinese territories.
Synopsis
Under AFTPP, USDA/FAS enters into agreements with Participants to share the cost of certain marketing and promotion activities to expand exports of U.S. agricultural commodities. Financial assistance under the AFTPP is made available on a competitive basis, and USDA/FAS endeavors to enter into agreements with eligible Participants to cover as broad an array of agricultural commodities as possible. All U.S. agricultural commodities, except tobacco, are eligible for consideration
