Forecast text
The Under Vehicle Inspection System (UVIS) is a commercially available camera system that allows security personnel to view the undercarriages of vehicles without the use of handheld mirrors/mirror light assemblies. The UVIS compiles visual images of the undercarriage of vehicles, displays those images for inspection by security personnel, and stores those images for future retrieval. The USSS has operated a version of the UVIS for several years at multiple sites around President’s Park and the United States Naval Observatory.
The current UVIS incorporates various technologies which include line-scan cameras, CCTV cameras, vehicle loop detection sensors, computers, display monitors, communication interfaces, power supplies, undercarriage lighting systems. And environmental enclosures. These systems require periodic maintenance, and hardware and software updates throughout their lifecycle.
Due to the aging components, unavailability of replacement parts, and technological obsolescence of the currently employed systems they require complete replacement.
