About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force, specifically United States Air Forces in Europe - Air Forces Africa (USAFE-AFAFRICA), is seeking to procure a passenger luggage x-ray machine for the 726th Air Mobility Squadron at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany. The primary objective is to enhance passenger screening capabilities by acquiring an x-ray machine that eliminates the need for manual luggage inspections while meeting United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) requirements. The machine must have specific technical specifications, including a tunnel size capable of accommodating large deployment-style luggage, dual panel color monitors, and automatic explosives detection technology. Prospective contractors must ensure the x-ray machine has TSA and/or European certification and is listed on the Air Cargo Screening Technology List. The pre-solicitation notice was posted on June 4, 2025, with a response deadline of June 9, 2025, indicating a short window for potential vendors to express interest in the upcoming solicitation.
The contract does not have a specific set-aside designation, suggesting it will be open to all qualified contractors. The x-ray machine procurement requires a comprehensive 60-month service and warranty period, with specific performance expectations including a two-hour technical support response time and on-site preventative maintenance. The machine must have a conveyor load capacity of 220kg and be capable of processing oversized items like pelican cases and military deployment bags. Contractors will be expected to provide full installation services, operator training, and complete the entire project within five months of contract award. While no specific award value is mentioned, the technical complexity and specialized requirements suggest this will be a significant procurement for the Air Mobility Command's passenger terminal infrastructure modernization efforts.
