About this opportunity
The US Geological Survey is conducting market research to determine availability of qualified vendors capable of providing X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis of split sediment cores, with capability statement responses due by July 22, 2026 at 1200 PST. No set-aside applies.
The vendor must scan approximately 70 split sediment cores collected from lakes in Alaska, California, Oregon, and Washington, with the final number determined through consultation between USGS researchers and lab personnel. Analysis must detect light atomic weight elements (Al, Si, P, S, Cl, K, Ca, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe) and medium atomic weight elements (Cu, Zn, Ga, Br, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Pb, Bi) at 1mm sampling intervals.
The vendor performs work at its own facility and is responsible for core preparation, providing a technician to conduct or assist with XRF scanning, and delivering results in spreadsheet or data text format within 60 days of receipt. Results must include USGS core identification, lab identification numbers, and elemental abundances down core. Period of performance runs from September 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027.
NAICS 541380 (Testing Laboratories and Services, $16.5 million size standard) and PSC B526 (Special Studies/Analysis – Oceanological) apply. Capability statements must be submitted by email to yangzhideng@usgs.gov; hardcopy or web portal submissions will not be accepted. This market research does not commit the Government to award and does not fund response preparation.
