About this opportunity

This Special Notice from the Department of the Army Corps of Engineers Engineering District Savannah concerns the rehabilitation of three Western right angle drive gearboxes at the Clemson Pumping Station in Clemson, South Carolina. The Corps intends to sole source this requirement, valued at $559,000, to Philadelphia Gear.

The Notice provides details of the sole source justification for Philadelphia Gear, as the original equipment manufacturer, to inspect, upgrade, and refurbish two existing gearboxes and build one new duplicate gearbox. Key reasons cited include the need for urgent repairs, Philadelphia Gear's proprietary drawings and information, challenges other vendors faced in providing quotes, and maintaining identical replacement parts. The repairs are critical to maintain drainage for over 1750 acres of land occupied by Clemson University infrastructure valued in excess of $60 million and avoid mission failure at the pumping station. Interested contractors must review the justification documents by March 12, 2021 in order to understand the basis for this sole source procurement.
