About this opportunity

The Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service seeks delivery of 108 weaned piglets in three age-segregated groups for research purposes at Ames, Iowa, with quotations due August 6, 2026 (amended August 3 to extend the deadline). This is a Total Small Business Set-Aside under NAICS 112210 (Hog and Pig Farming), with a $4.0 million small business size standard.

Place of performance and delivery is Ames, Iowa (1920 Dayton Avenue, National Center for Animal Health). The procurement requires three separate deliveries: 36 piglets weaned at 17–19 days of age (delivery window September 4–11), 36 weaned at 22–24 days (September 9–16), and 36 weaned at 27–29 days (September 13–21). All 108 piglets must be sourced from exactly 18 litters (2 piglets per litter per age group), with all litters farrowed within three days of one another per group. Piglets must be PRRSV antigen and antibody negative, uniform in size and body condition, free of lameness or respiratory distress, and identified by litter prior to shipment. All sows must have parity 2–4 and standard production line genetics. All piglets must be the same gender (female preferred, all-male acceptable). Quotations must include firm pricing through September 30, 2026, and cover ear tagging services for 108 animals, three health papers, and transportation services. Delivery is FOB destination. The Government will make one award based on Lowest Price, Technically Acceptable (LPTA) methodology, evaluating technical acceptability and past performance; only technically acceptable quotations advance to price evaluation. Offerors must maintain active SAM.gov registration and submit quotations via email in PDF format to the Contracting Officer, Kristine M. Stout. Questions must be submitted at least 72 hours prior to the close date.
