About this opportunity

The U.S. Forest Service issued a sole-source special notice on May 18, 2026, announcing its intent to award a non-competitive contract to Frontier Precision Inc. for Trimble brand GNSS equipment (GPS receivers, data collectors, total stations, and software) with a response deadline of June 3, 2026 at 10:00 AM Pacific Time. No solicitation will be posted; if no affirmative written responses are received by the deadline, award will proceed without further notice.

The Forest Service determined that only Frontier Precision, the authorized Pacific Northwest distributor of Trimble brand equipment, can satisfy agency requirements. The purchase replaces aging survey-grade GPS receivers at R6 Lands locations in Vancouver and Colville, Washington, and must integrate with existing Trimble equipment currently in use by USFS survey teams. The specifications call for 8 GNSS receivers, 6 data collectors, 6 software packages, and accessories; three receivers must include IMU tilt compensation. Required integration with retained Trimble R12 receivers and compatibility with Trimble Access software eliminate alternatives; non-Trimble equipment would require substantial additional software and hardware acquisition. The USFS CIO has pre-approved and exempted Trimble branded receivers from Technical Approval requirements, while comparable alternatives lack this exemption and would require individual evaluation.

All responsible sources may submit a capability statement (business name, point of contact, email, phone, CAGE Code, DUNS number, and small business status if applicable) via email to kevin.flores@usda.gov. Oral communications are not acceptable. NAICS code 334519 applies; the small business size standard is 600 employees.
