About this opportunity
The U.S. Coast Guard is conducting market research on portable trace detection systems for narcotics via a Request for Information with a response deadline of June 3, 2026, and is not currently issuing a solicitation. This is voluntary market research; submission carries no payment obligation or contract award guarantee, though all submitted information becomes government property.
The Coast Guard seeks commercially available systems capable of detecting illicit substances including synthetic compounds and Fentanyl in maritime environments. Required capabilities include detection probability exceeding 95% for an expandable threat library, false alarm rate below 5%, analysis time under 20 seconds, 8-hour continuous battery life with hot-swap capability, and environmental hardening exceeding MIL-STD-810H standards. Systems must support data export via USB-C in PDF and CSV formats in under 2 minutes and operate with 98% availability and 4,000-hour mean time between failure. Vendors must demonstrate simultaneous narcotic and explosive detection, configurable detection libraries, minimal warm-up time, low calibration requirements, and gloved-hand operability with multilingual display options.
Vendors must submit technical specifications, company profile information (name, address, UEI, CAGE code, NAICS 334516 socioeconomic status), federal and law enforcement experience, technology readiness level, 5-plus-year parts availability and warranty plans, non-binding pricing for single units and annual consumables (based on 500 samples annually), training options, delivery timelines, and product availability through GSA eBuy, NASA SEWP IV, or other approved strategic sourcing vehicles. Responses are limited to 10 pages excluding cover page in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or PDF format. Questions are due by 12:00 PM EST May 21, 2026.
