About this opportunity
The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) is seeking to procure a Stratasys Fortus 450mc 3D printer for mechanical engineering senior design projects sponsored by USAF organizations. The printer must have specific technical capabilities, including a build volume of at least 16x14x16 inches, the ability to print using Fused-Filament-Fabrication method, and capability to produce FAA/USAF approved aircraft components. Interested vendors must be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM.gov) and submit a capabilities package including company information, contact details, and socio-economic status. Electronic responses are to be submitted to melinda.lingley@us.af.mil by May 6, 2025, at 9:00am MST, with the sources sought number FY25_USAFA_Stratasys_Fortus_450mc. The procurement will follow the North American Industry Classification Systems (NAICS) Code 335999, with a size standard of 600 employees.
While no specific set-aside has been definitively established, the notice indicates the requirement is being considered under a small business set-aside program. The solicitation requires the 3D printer to use 208V 3-phase power, have a system footprint of approximately 50"Wx36"D, and include delivery, installation, and a one-year manufacturer's warranty. The printer must be capable of printing engineering-grade thermoplastics like Ultem 9085, Ultem 1010, and Nylon 12CF, with a print layer thickness of around 0.005 inches. Vendors must provide data sheets demonstrating mechanical properties and be able to use 3D printing slicer software such as Prusaslicer, Cura, or GrabCAD. Although no specific award value is mentioned, the procurement involves a sophisticated industrial polymer 3D printer with precise engineering specifications for aerospace component manufacturing.
