About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health Office of Logistics and Acquisition Operations issued a sole-source Special Notice on September 23, 2026, for a UroNav software update to an existing BK5000 ultrasound machine, with a response deadline of September 25, 2026. The requirement is exclusive to BK Medical, the sole manufacturer capable of providing the specific software update for the BK5000 platform.
The procurement supports the NIH Clinical Center's Department of Perioperative Medicine and addresses operational constraints at the facility. The Clinical Center currently operates with one available ultrasound machine for surgical procedures, creating scheduling conflicts when multiple cases are booked simultaneously. The software upgrade will enable two operating rooms to function concurrently by supporting the E14CL4b Biplane Endocavity transducer for transrectal and transvaginal probe cases, reducing delays and improving patient outcomes. The upgrade specifically supports prostate biopsy fusion cases for Dr. Pinto and Dr. Gurram and provides enhanced image quality and ease of use.
The estimated contract value falls between $10,000 and $250,000. Market research confirmed BK Medical as the sole source, and the procurement is justified under FAR 13.106-1(b) for single-source authority.
