About this opportunity
The United States Marine Corps' 2d Expeditionary Contracting Platoon is conducting market research for simple Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) that will be used by Marines for target practice, with the intent to kinetically destroy the units while in flight. The procurement seeks small Group 1 type drones capable of operating within a quarter to half mile distance and must comply with FAR Clause 52.240-1 regarding prohibition of drones manufactured by American Security Drone Act-covered foreign entities. Key requirements include Blue List compliance, American-made components (preferred), omnidirectional flight capability, return-to-origin function, programmable flight patterns, and simple handheld controller operation similar to gaming devices. The systems must be delivered fully assembled or capable of assembly in under 30 minutes with all necessary tools and components included. Responses to this sources sought notice were due by August 11, 2025, with delivery required no later than the end of September for overseas (OCONUS) deployment.
This opportunity is designated as a Total Small Business set-aside, restricting participation to qualified small business entities. No incumbent contractors or current service providers are mentioned in the notice. The budget constraint is set at under $10,000 total purchase value, with the government seeking to acquire as many units as possible within this price range, emphasizing the consumable nature of the drones. The contracting officers overseeing this market research are Captain Joseph Stewart and Staff Sergeant Lucas Elliott, who can be contacted via email. The notice explicitly states that this is market research only and does not commit the government to any contract award, with no reimbursement available for response costs.
