About this opportunity

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), a component of the National Institutes of Health, intends to award a sole-source contract to the University of Florida for clinical research support related to Malignant Hyperthermia Susceptibility (MHS) research, with capability statements due September 21, 2026.

The award is justified under FAR 6.302-1 (Only One Responsible Source) based on the University of Florida's unique access to an established MHS patient registry operated by Dr. Nikolaus Gravenstein, combined with the institution's clinical expertise and established participant relationships. The contract will support NIH research protocol 10-HG-0065, which investigates the causes, detection, and prevention of genetic disorders. The contractor will solicit participation among eligible registry individuals, obtain informed consent documentation, coordinate biological sample collection, maintain sample identification and tracking, and arrange shipment of samples to NIH. Research addressing MHS carries significance for public health and combat readiness in the Armed Forces.

Although the acquisition intends a sole-source award to the University of Florida, NHGRI invites small businesses—including 8(a), HUBZone, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, veteran-owned, women-owned, and small disadvantaged businesses—to submit written capability statements demonstrating their ability to meet the specified requirements. Capability statements must be submitted by email to danielt@mail.nih.gov no later than 9:00 a.m. EDT on September 21, 2026, and must reference Notice No. 75N98026Q01205. Award is anticipated approximately five days after the closing date. Submission of a capability statement does not obligate the Government to compete the acquisition.
