About this opportunity
The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Strategic Materials Directorate has issued a Request for Information seeking industry input on the potential acquisition of tungsten ores and concentrates for the National Defense Stockpile. The agency is exploring the procurement of 1,715 metric tons of these strategic materials, with potential delivery to three depot locations: Hammond, Indiana; Hawthorne, Nevada; and Scotia, New York. Vendors must submit comprehensive 20-page capability statements covering company data, material specifications, supply chain information, delivery capabilities, storage conditions, and market insights. The RFI requires detailed information on tungsten ore grades, impurities, testing methods, production capacity, pricing trends, and overall company capabilities. Responses must be submitted by September 10, 2025, at 3:00 PM Eastern Time via email to the designated Contracting Specialist and Contracting Officer. The government emphasizes that this is purely for planning purposes and does not constitute a commitment to award any contracts.
This opportunity does not utilize any set-aside designations and is open to all qualified vendors. No current contractors or incumbents are identified in the documentation. The RFI does not specify budget ranges or potential award values, as it is strictly an information-gathering exercise to assess market capabilities and inform potential future procurement strategies. The specific quantity requirement of 1,715 metric tons represents a substantial acquisition for strategic stockpile purposes. The government has indicated that responses will become government property and will not be returned, and companies should not expect feedback on their submissions. All costs associated with responding to this RFI will be borne entirely by the responding parties, with no reimbursement from the government.
