About this opportunity

The United States Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing Service is conducting market research for domestically produced tuna for USDA Food Programs. This Sources Sought Notice is specifically seeking information about canned tuna in 12.0 oz and 66.5 oz pack sizes, including a Kosher 66.5 oz variant. The procurement requires 100% domestic origin tuna, and vendors must meet comprehensive product specification requirements including detailed labeling, packaging, shipping, and distribution information. Interested companies are requested to provide extensive details about their product capabilities, including net weight, federal facility oversight, shipping specifications, and distribution limitations. The market research response deadline is April 21, 2025, with responses to be submitted via email to Carrie Meyers and Kevin Day.

This pre-solicitation notice does not have a specific set-aside designation and is not limited to small businesses, though vendors must provide their Small Business Administration size classification. While no specific award value is mentioned, the procurement appears focused on establishing a pool of qualified domestic tuna suppliers for USDA Food Programs. Vendors will need to demonstrate their ability to consistently supply tuna nationwide, meet all federal and state mandatory requirements for product preparation and packaging, and potentially become qualified USDA Foods vendors. The market research aims to gather comprehensive information about commercial tuna product availability, including estimated monthly capacity, geographic distribution capabilities, product pricing, shelf life, and grading methodologies. Interested suppliers must be prepared to provide detailed product information and potentially participate in a future formal solicitation process.
