About this opportunity
Paragraph 1:
The Department of Energy is seeking to procure a Surface Analysis Station (SAS) Diagnostics Chamber to support the Material-Plasma Exposure eXperiment (MPEX) project at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The SAS Diagnostics Chamber will be used to analyze the surface of plasma-exposed targets from the MPEX experiment, which simulates the harsh conditions inside a fusion reactor. Key requirements include the chamber being made of Grade 316 stainless steel, capable of ultra-high vacuum, and incorporating specialized analytical instruments such as a Focused Ion-Beam, Scanning Electron Microscope, and X-ray spectrometer. Proposals will be evaluated on the Seller's ability to meet the technical specifications outlined in the Statement of Work and Product Specification documents. Proposals are due by October 21, 2024.
Paragraph 2:
This procurement does not have any set-aside designations. The government has not identified any potential incumbent contractors. The budget for this contract has not been specified. The required SAS Diagnostics Chamber is a single unit to be delivered to Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Notice text
The Material-Plasma Exposure eXperiment (MPEX), a superconducting magnet, steady-state device, is being constructed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), going forward referred to as “the Company,” to address the harsh conditions inside a fusion reactor.
After the target has been exposed to the plasma, analysis of the affected surface is essential to understanding of the effects. To maintain the integrity of the affected surface target it will be kept in a vacuum environment during transportation and analysis. This analysis will be conducted in a Surface Analysis Station (SAS) Diagnostics Chamber to facilitate the study of the pristine affected surface.
