About this opportunity

The Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is issuing a Request for Information (RFI) to procure Sterlitech Part #45335 silver membrane filters for X-ray diffraction analyses at their Pittsburgh Safety and Health Technology Center. The filters are critical for analyzing approximately 4,000+ mine dust samples annually to assess silica content and enforce health standards at 10,000 metal/nonmetal mines. Specific filter requirements include 99.97% pure metallic silver, 25mm diameter, 0.45 micron pore size, uniform porosity, extra 30-minute annealing time, and chemical inertness. Interested suppliers must submit a response by March 5, 2025 at 5:00 PM EDT, which must include a one-page company cover letter with CAGE and DUNS numbers, a five-page technical response detailing capabilities, and a one-page overview of relevant government experience. The evaluation will likely focus on technical capabilities, past performance, and ability to meet stringent filter specifications.

The procurement is not designated for any specific small business set-aside and falls under NAICS category 334516 (Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing) with a Product Service Code of 6640 for Laboratory Equipment and Supplies. Suppliers will be expected to demonstrate the ability to deliver filters within 61 days after order receipt to the PSHTC facility in Pittsburgh, PA. While specific award value is not disclosed, the annual requirement of 4,000+ filter samples suggests a potentially significant contract. The RFI seeks to establish a reliable source for highly specialized scientific membrane filters with precise technical requirements, indicating a potential multi-year procurement strategy. The detailed specifications and rigorous submission requirements suggest MSHA is seeking a highly qualified, technically sophisticated supplier capable of consistently meeting exacting scientific standards for mine safety research and analysis.
