About this opportunity
The U.S. Geological Survey Office of Acquisitions and Grants is conducting market research to identify qualified vendors capable of providing X-ray Computed Tomography (XRCT) scanning and image processing services, with responses due by August 4, 2026. This sources sought announcement is not a request for proposal and does not commit the government to award; it serves planning purposes only. No payment will be made for response preparation.
Work will be performed at the contractor's laboratory and involves collecting high-resolution CT scans of sand samples from 1 cm diameter cores obtained from fault zones and shear zones to support the government's earthquake deformation research. Deliverables include raw transmission radiographs, reconstructed and filtered XRCT images in TIFF format, labeled XRCT images, a spreadsheet containing physical properties data (grain size, sphericity, convexity, coordination number, contact normals, grain orientation, aspect ratio, bulk density, and fabric anisotropy), and a comprehensive report documenting methods and findings. Results must be provided by download within 180 days of receiving samples, which will arrive in multiple batches rather than all at once. Performance runs from date of award through September 28, 2027.
The government will provide sediment samples; no government-furnished property is required from the contractor. NAICS code 541380 (Testing Laboratories) with a $19.0 million size standard and PSC B517 (Special Studies/Analysis - Geological) apply. Interested vendors should submit a capabilities statement addressing laboratory capabilities, equipment and analytical methods, relevant experience, examples of similar work, quality control and assurance practices, company information including SAM UEI, and whether work will be performed in-house or through subcontractors. Only sources demonstrating full technical capability and necessary facilities should respond.
