About this opportunity

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is conducting a sources-sought market research for UV Frequency Doublers with responses due August 2, 2026. This is not a solicitation and does not commit NIST to award; it is intended to identify qualified vendors and determine whether a small business set-aside opportunity exists. NIST will consider all small business set-aside categories and is seeking responses from vendors of all sizes who manufacture the product in the U.S., and respondents must indicate the country of manufacture.

NIST's Ion Storage Group requires two UV Optical Frequency Doubling Systems to support optical frequency standards, ultrastable lasers, and precision measurements with trapped ions. The systems must convert 535.6 nm input wavelength (0.1 nm tolerance) to 267.8 nm output with input power of 200–500 mW and output power exceeding 15 mW at 200 mW input. Additional critical specifications include input linewidth less than 100 kHz, cavity lock bandwidth greater than 20 kHz, free-space collimated Gaussian beam input (~1 mm waist), hermetically sealed doubling cavity with external alignment capability, temperature-controlled non-linear optical crystal, and long-term stability exceeding 6 months without realignment or crystal repositioning on a best-effort basis. The procurement includes separately priced options for one Digital Servo for Two Doubling Cavities with automatic relock functionality and two spare doubling crystals. Delivery, installation, and training must be completed within 16–18 weeks ARO, with vendor technician on-site for system setup, performance confirmation, and user training. NIST will supply the 534 nm input laser and will conduct acceptance testing over 14 business days. If at least two qualified small businesses are identified, the acquisition will be solicited as a small business set-aside.
