About this opportunity
The Department of the Interior's Interior Business Center, acting on behalf of the Air Force Civil Engineering Center (AFCEC), has issued a Sources Sought Notice for a Type 6 Wildland Light Engine Upgrade project at Beale Air Force Base. The procurement seeks contractors capable of converting two existing Ford F-550 Super Duty 4x4 trucks into fully functional wildland firefighting vehicles through the acquisition, installation, and integration of specialized firefighting equipment including pumps, generators, hoses, storage compartments, control panels, suppression equipment, compressors, valves, and gauges. The government will provide the chassis vehicles, and contractors must demonstrate expertise in heavy-duty truck manufacturing and firefighting equipment installation. Industry responses must be submitted electronically to Nicole Johnson at Nicole_Johnson@ibc.doi.gov by August 7, 2025, at 5:00 PM Eastern Time. Submissions are limited to 20 pages in Microsoft Word format and must include company details, SAM.gov UEI, socio-economic status, and GSA Schedule information. The solicitation falls under NAICS code 336120 (Heavy Duty Truck Manufacturing) and PSC code 4210 (Fire Fighting Equipment).
This opportunity has no set-aside designation and is open to all qualified contractors. No incumbent contractors or current service providers are identified in the solicitation documents. While specific contract values are not disclosed, the comprehensive Performance Work Statement details extensive technical requirements including a 315-gallon water tank, 7-gallon foam tank, 24.8 HP Kubota diesel pump engine, electronic foam proportioning system, multiplex electrical controls, and emergency lighting packages that suggest a substantial investment per vehicle. The contractor will be responsible for converting two F-550 trucks with delivery expected within 180-270 days from order receipt. Performance will occur at the contractor's facility with final delivery to Beale Air Force Base for the Air Force Wildland Fire Branch, and all equipment must meet NFPA 1900 standards and operate effectively in severe off-road environments.
Notice text
Services to provide acquisition, incidental services, and installation of Fire related equipment and supply products build and mount onto two existing F-550 Super Duty 4x4 trucks (provided by the POC Unit). Service does not include purchase of a vehicle, but attaches and installs equipment onto an existing truck such as pumps, generators, hoses, hose fittings/reels, storage, containment, compartments, control panels, suppression equipment, compressors, valves, gauges, etc. The service will provide and create an upgrade to the existing truck, converting it into a usable fire fighting vehicle (Type 6 Wildland Light Engine)
