About this opportunity

The U.S. Geological Survey issued a notice of intent on June 18, 2026 to award a sole-source purchase order to Silicon Audio for two 203-60 replacement borehole accelerometers, with response deadline June 29, 2026 at 1500 PST. The USGS determined that Silicon Audio is the only source capable of providing equipment with the required technical specifications and ensuring compatibility with the existing borehole monitoring system. The sensors are needed as replacements for identical units currently installed in a network monitoring a geologic carbon capture and sequestration project; sensor failure would create significant downtime at critical seismic monitoring stations expected to operate for at least five additional years. Market research through a sources-sought notice posted on SAM.gov confirmed no other manufacturer can supply identical replacement sensors. Although this is a notice of intent and no competitive solicitation will be issued, any responsible party may submit a quotation by the closing date for agency consideration; the Government retains sole discretion to decline competition based on responses received. All submissions must be sent by email to yangzhideng@ios.doi.gov; hardcopy or web portal submissions will not be accepted. The procurement falls under FAR Part 12 commercial products authority and NAICS 334513.
