About this opportunity

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), U.S. Department of Commerce, anticipates procuring a Short-Wave Infrared Radiation Open-Top Sample Digestion System through a sole-source award to ColdBlock Technologies Inc., with an anticipated award date of September 2026.

NIST intends to award a Firm-Fixed Price contract using Simplified Acquisition Procedures. The sole-source justification rests on market research indicating no alternative sources capable of meeting the requirements; ColdBlock specializes in the specific short-wave infrared open-top digestion technology matching NIST's specifications.

The system shall consist of a primary multi-channel digestion unit (10–20 channels) designed to operate within an existing laboratory chemical fume hood, a digital controller unit with integrated software for multi-step digestion programming accessible via tablet, laptop, or desktop, and an external recirculating chiller maintaining temperatures between −5°C and 25°C with a minimum cooling capacity of 300W at 20°C, minimum pump flow rate of 10–20 L/min, and minimum reservoir volume of 3–5 liters. The starter accessory kit must include at least two test tube racks/stands, two transfer trays, a baseline set of hydrofluoric acid-compatible digestion tubes (Teflon construction), and one spare short-wave infrared heating lamp with a minimum 4,000-hour runtime rating. The system controller requires compatibility with a dedicated single-phase 208–240V AC, 50/60 Hz, 30 Amp power source; the contractor shall provide appropriate power cables and NEMA 6-30 plug configurations. Equipment must carry official CE and/or CSA safety certifications.

Performance will occur at the NIST Gaithersburg campus, 100 Bureau Drive, Gaithersburg, Maryland 20899, with estimated delivery within 90 days of award. Responsible sources believing they can satisfy requirements may submit capability information to Contracting Officer Donald Graham at donald.graham@nist.gov or 301-975-6753.
