The National Cancer Institute (NCI), under the Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration, has issued a Notice of Intent to Sole Source a service contract for preventive maintenance of a Leica SP8 WLL2 TAN Laser Scanning Confocal Microscope with Falcon module. This special notice (Notice ID: 75N98026Q00031) was posted on February 19, 2026, with a due date of February 25, 2026. The NCI intends to award a single-source purchase order to Leica Microsystems of Deerfield, Illinois, based on the proprietary nature of the equipment and the requirement for manufacturer-certified service. This acquisition falls under NAICS code 811210 (Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance) with a size standard of $34 million.
The primary objective of this contract is to secure annual preventive maintenance services for a clinical instrument owned by the government, including thorough cleaning, calibration, adjustment, inspection, and testing procedures performed in accordance with the manufacturer's established protocols. The contract will span a base year from March 1, 2026, through February 28, 2027, with two optional one-year renewal periods extending through February 28, 2029. Key requirements include operational testing through at least one complete operating cycle to ensure optimal performance, provision of software updates and OEM parts, and guaranteed on-site response capabilities. Only Leica Microsystems is eligible to respond, as technicians must be technically certified by Leica to work on the equipment, and the NCI will solicit and negotiate directly with this single source without issuing a public solicitation.
