About this opportunity

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is seeking to procure a one-year access to the Advanced Photon Source (APS) beamline for remote access data collection through a sole source purchase order. The CDC Office of Acquisition Services intends to award this contract exclusively to the University of Georgia Research Foundation, Inc., justifying the sole source procurement based on the unique capabilities of the APS as the brightest synchrotron light source in the United States. The procurement is specifically for macromolecular crystallography services that include 24/7 troubleshooting staff support, sample running access, and guaranteed beam access during public health emergencies. The justification emphasizes that no other beamline facilities can meet CDC's specific requirements for beam brightness, remote access capabilities, and technical compatibility. Interested parties must submit any quotations or responses by email to the contract specialist at ehu0@cdc.gov by August 8, 2025, though this notice explicitly states it is not a request for competitive quotations.

This procurement operates under no set-aside designation and is being conducted as a sole source acquisition under FAR 13.106-1(b) and 41 U.S.C. 3304(a)(1) authorities. The University of Georgia Research Foundation, Inc. appears to be the intended sole contractor based on their exclusive access to the Advanced Photon Source facility. The contract value falls under the simplified acquisition procedures threshold of $250,000, as indicated in the sole source justification documentation. The procurement is classified under NAICS code 334516 for Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing and PSC code W066 for equipment lease or rental of instruments and laboratory equipment. The contract duration is specified as one year of beamline access, providing CDC with critical infrastructure for conducting advanced scientific research and maintaining readiness for public health emergency response capabilities.
