About this opportunity

The US Geological Survey is conducting market research to identify qualified suppliers capable of providing components for Scanning Differential Optical Absorption Spectrometer (Scanning DOAS) instruments, with responses due May 12, 2026 by 1500 PST. This is a sources sought announcement for planning purposes only; no procurement commitment or contract award is anticipated from this notice.

The DOAS instruments support the Network for Observation of Volcanic and Atmospheric Change (NOVAC) network, which measures sulfur dioxide in volcanic gas plumes. Specific components solicited include a high-latitude plastic DOAS scanner with fused-silica tube designed for harsh environments and heated by stepper motor excess heat; a metal pole holder for mounting on steel pipe frames or masts; a six-meter motor cable with DB9 adapter and custom connectors; and a cylindrical quartz window with cylindrical lenses for collecting scattered UV radiation across wider angles to support wind speed measurements using dual beam capabilities. The scanner is delivered disassembled into mounting component, motor mounting component, and protective hood with four custom bolts and two fiber optics cable mounting holes.

SOURCES SOUGHT

The US Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to determine the availability of qualified businesses capable of providing components of Scanning Differential Optical Absorption Spectrometer (Scanning DOAS) instruments as described in the attached Technical Specifications. These instruments are part of the Network for Observation of Volcanic and Atmospheric Change (NOVAC) network, which primarily targets sulfur dioxide in volcanic gas plumes.

This sources sought announcement is not a request for quote or proposal and the Government is not committed to award of a purchase order or contract pursuant to this announcement. The information resulting from this market research is simply for planning purposes to assist the Government in determining its acquisition strategy. The Government will not pay for any costs incurred in the preparation of information for responding to this notice.
