NAVFAC EXWC was tasked to design a “Safety Gangway†as a proof on concept. NAVFAC EXWC, working with the Safety Office at the Yokosuka Ship Repair Facility (SRF), developed a design solution using a NAVFAC standard gangway modified with attachable boxes to stow and deploy a pedestrian ramp. NAVFAC EXWC will deploy and evaluate the effectiveness of this prototype in a shipyard environment.
The requirement isto fabricate, conduct quality assurance, and deliver a Safety Gangway to the US Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center (SRF-JRMC), Yokosuka, Japan. The fabrication drawing package is included as a Government Furnished Item.
NAVFAC Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center (NAVFAC EXWC) developed a Safety Gangway System, comprised of a 4’ X 35’ Gangway with two end Ramp Boxes to safely support personnel entering or exiting a gangway with an elevated end.
Each ramp box has a stowable 6’ long ramp that can be removed and deployed as required. Additionally, an alternate ramp design is included for shorter ramp lengths.
