About this opportunity
The U.S. Geological Survey Alaska Science Center is seeking qualified contractors to provide rock sample preparation services through a Request for Quotation issued on April 6, 2026. The procurement requires the preparation of 350 rock samples including standard and microprobe polished thin sections, with samples to be slabbed, cut to 30 micrometers thick, mounted on glass slides, and finished with final lapping using 0.5 micrometer abrasive. Quotations must be submitted by email to Anthony Berry at amberry@ios.doi.gov no later than April 15, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Technical submissions must demonstrate technical capability through a statement of relevant experience with similar work completed in the last 18 months for academic or public sector research organizations, along with at least three professional references. Evaluation will be based on three primary criteria: technical capability, past performance, and price, with non-price factors combined being approximately equal to price in overall importance.
This is a firm fixed price purchase order designated as a total small business set-aside, making it available exclusively to small business concerns. The estimated period of performance extends from May 15, 2026, through May 14, 2028, providing approximately two years for contract completion. Standard deliverables must be returned within a 6-week turnaround unless otherwise specified, with any substandard quality samples to be replaced at no additional charge. Work will be performed at the contractor's place of business, and all quoted prices must include sample stabilization, trimming, and shipping to the government. The contract is classified under NAICS code 541380 (Testing Laboratories and Services) with a $19.0 million small business size standard, and payment will be processed electronically through the U.S. Department of Treasury's Internet Processing Platform.
