About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Lifecycle Management Center at Robins Air Force Base is conducting market research to identify potential sources for a sophisticated ballistic data collection system for small caliber (.50 Cal) weapons testing. The government seeks a technical solution capable of capturing comprehensive ballistic performance metrics, including bullet flight, muzzle velocity, accuracy, and muzzle energy for fully automatic weaponry. The required system must operate within an indoor range up to 50 meters, be operable by no more than three personnel, and have data export capabilities to Windows-based computers, particularly compatible with software like Excel. Responses to this Request for Information (RFI) are due by March 24, 2025, at 3:00 PM EST, with submissions to be made via email to designated contracting specialists. The market research aims to understand potential vendor capabilities and explore various approaches to meeting the government's technical requirements.
The solicitation is currently designated with no specific set-aside, meaning both large and small businesses are encouraged to participate, including through joint ventures or teaming arrangements. Small businesses are specifically invited to identify potential areas that could be exclusively reserved for their participation. While the exact award value is not specified in the documentation, the government has classified this as a commercial item requirement. No information is provided about incumbent contractors or precise budget ranges for the project. The government will not reimburse any costs associated with responding to this market research effort, and the level of security clearance required and extent of permissible foreign participation have not yet been definitively determined. Interested vendors are expected to demonstrate expertise, technical capabilities, and experience in developing advanced ballistic data collection systems that meet the specified technical parameters.
Notice text
The Government is conducting market research to identify potential sources that possess the expertise, capabilities, and experience to meet qualification requirements for systems that provide ballistic data and shot placement for use in small caliber (≤.50 Cal) testing. This preferred data must include bullet flight, muzzle velocity, accuracy, and muzzle energy. The system must be able to function with fully automatic weaponry. The equipment must be simple to use and require less than three personnel to function. The equipment must be able to function in an indoor range up to 50m. Equipment must be capable to export data to Windows computer; common software (i.e. Excel) is preferable. The level of security clearance and amount of foreign participation in this requirement has not been determined.
