About this opportunity

The Department of the Army issued a Request for Information on August 7, 2026, seeking industry responses on Hard Kill Active Protection System maturity and delivery capability, with responses due by August 11, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET. The Army intends to conduct a competitive shoot-off to down-select the most capable vendor, with the winning system eligible for integration into multiple Army combat vehicles, transition to production, and field deployment. No set-aside applies.

Vendors must respond to 13 detailed question sets addressing Technology and Manufacturing Readiness Levels, delivery risks for March 2027 and March 2028 timelines, data rights, supply chain security, and cost estimates across procurement quantities of 29 to 500 units and munition quantities of 100 to 2,000 units. Systems must detect and defeat chemical energy threats (RPGs, recoilless rifles, ATGMs) and Groups 1–2 unmanned aerial systems, operate within limited vehicle integration space, and comply with the PdM Vehicle Protection Systems Modular APS Framework 2.2. All hardware, software, and firmware must be produced in the United States or sourced from Five Eyes nations with final assembly in the U.S. Systems must achieve TRL 8 or higher by the stated delivery dates.

Responses must be UNCLASSIFIED and submitted via email. Technical questions are due by August 4, 2026. The Government accepts responses from complete system vendors, subsystem providers, and prospective teammate groups. Supplemental products may accompany responses; vendors may request a DoD SAFE link for files exceeding email limits. Notice text

Hard Kill Active Protection System: This RFI is intended to help inform the Government on the maturity of industry Hard Kill APSs as well as the timeline it will take to deliver them.

The Army is seeking Hard Kill Active Protection System (APS) vendors to deliver a system to the Government for a competitive shoot off for down selection of the most capable system.  The selected system will have the opportunity to move forward for potential integration into multiple Army combat vehicles, taken into production, and fielded. To be successful in this competition, vendors will need their systems to meet and demonstrate against system performance requirements, package into a limited space claim for vehicle integration, and operate within a Modular APS Framework (MAF) compliant architecture while maintaining a system competitive price point in production.

Please refer to the attachment for more information and list of questions.

Responses to this RFI should not simply be a yes/no answer, but rather provide insights and examples as to what your specific capabilities are. If you have supplemental products that you’re able to share with your responses, please attach them with your response. If the files are too large for email, please request a DoD SAFE link for files up to 8GB.

Disclaimer: The Government is not committed to issue a solicitation or award a contract as a result of this announcement.
