About this opportunity

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) issued a Request for Information (RFI) on March 27, 2026, seeking market information regarding capabilities and technologies for large aircraft threat sensing and cueing systems. This RFI is explicitly not a request for proposals and does not constitute an offer to award a contract or commit government funds. Rather, it is a planning and market research tool designed to gather information about available capabilities, technical maturity levels, and industry capabilities. The RFI has been amended twice, with Amendment 1 extending the response deadline to April 24, 2026, and Amendment 2 extending the period to request access to classified information until April 20, 2026. Responses to this RFI will not be treated as competitive proposals, and submission provides no competitive advantage in future related procurements.

AFRL seeks information to support an advanced technology development effort focused on accelerating emerging technology development and transitioning capabilities to acquisition organizations for subsequent development and maturation. The primary objective is to identify and evaluate concept and technology demonstrations of components, subsystems, and system models that can prove technological feasibility and achieve Technology Readiness Level 6 before transition. Interested contractors must request access to a classified addendum (containing specific technical thrust areas and detailed submission instructions) by April 20, 2026, by emailing adrianna.menker@us.af.mil with company information and primary point of contact details. Responses are limited to 10 pages per technical thrust area (maximum 30 pages total) in Calibri 10-point font with one-inch margins, and must be submitted via SIPRNET email in PDF format by 3:00 PM Eastern Time on April 24, 2026. Participation requires access to classified information up to Secret Collateral, and responses must not contain proprietary information, marketing materials, or elected official endorsements.

Update #3 · Latest ·

RFI Amendment 2: This amendment extends the open period to request the classified addendum from 10 business days following RFI publication (10 Apr 2026) to 16 business days following RFI publication (20 Apr 2026).

RFI Amendment 1: This amendment updates the response date to 24 April 2026.

This is a Request for Information (RFI) only, as defined in RFO FAR 15.101(c), to obtain information about capabilities, technical maturity, and other market information for planning purposes. This RFI is not a request for proposals; therefore, responses to this RFI are not considered offers and cannot be accepted by the Government to form a binding contract.  The Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this RFI or otherwise pay for the information requested. Responses will be treated as information only and not as a proposal.

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is seeking information regarding capabilities supporting an advanced technology development effort for large aircraft threat sensing and cueing. This is a science and technology effort focused on accelerating emerging technology development and transition to acquisition organizations for subsequent development and maturation. This advanced technology development includes concept and technology demonstrations of components and subsystems or system models with the intention to prove technological feasibility and assess subsystem and component operability and producibility. This effort seeks to demonstrate the general military utility of technology when applied to different types of military equipment or techniques – with the end-goal of transitioning technologies to acquiring organizations in the future. This technology demonstration effort is generally expected to achieve a Technology Readiness Level of 6 before transition.
