About this opportunity
The United States Marine Corps is seeking professional services for the repair and restoration of a circa 1800 American Federal Period Neoclassical Style Bell Strike Tall Case Clock with an eight-day time and strike brass and steel sweep second hand movement, including painted moon phase and main dial. The clock is currently displayed at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in a Historic House in Washington, D.C., and requires comprehensive restoration services including inspection, assessment, repairs, and treatment to ensure proper functionality of its complex movement mechanisms. Interested vendors must submit a two-page capabilities statement addressing specific industry feedback questions, including their ability to provide services, potential evaluation criteria, commercial market availability, and rough order of magnitude pricing. The Request for Information responses are due by 11:00 AM EST on July 17, 2025, and must be submitted to david.laster@usmc.mil. The government intends to award a Firm-Fixed Price contract following this market research phase, with vendors required to demonstrate expertise in historical artifact preservation and careful handling of antique timepieces.
This procurement does not utilize any set-aside designations and is open to all qualified vendors in the market. No incumbent contractors or current service providers are identified in the solicitation documents. The government has not specified exact award values or budget ranges, requesting instead that vendors provide rough order of magnitude pricing as part of their market research response. The anticipated period of performance is 18-24 months, allowing sufficient time for the comprehensive restoration work required on this historical artifact. The clock has already undergone previous conservation treatment as documented in the attached conservation report, indicating the government's commitment to preserving this significant piece of Marine Corps history through professional restoration services.
