About this opportunity

The United States Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC) is conducting market research through a Request for Information (RFI) regarding modernization capabilities for the Global Positioning System-Survey (GPS-S), a fielded survey system used by Marine Artillery Sensor Sections to provide accurate positioning data in expeditionary operations. The GPS-S modernization effort seeks to replace current components with improved capabilities including M-code GPS functionality, Windows 11-compatible post-processing software, inter-station communication via AN/PRC-163 radio, and an updated handheld controller. Interested industry vendors must submit a 15-page executive summary by 4:00 PM Eastern Time on December 24, 2025, addressing company background, technical capabilities, testing data, modification requirements, and performance specifications. Responses should detail current system capabilities, necessary modifications, technology readiness levels, and any performance specification requirements that cannot be achieved. This RFI is for market research purposes only and does not represent an obligation to award a contract; no entitlement to payment exists for responses submitted, and responses cannot form a binding contract.

This opportunity carries no specific set-aside designation. The RFI does not identify potential incumbents or specify award values or budget ranges at this pre-solicitation stage. Current system components consist of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment, custom GPS encrypted receivers, and Trimble Business Center software, which serves as the baseline for modernization planning. No contract award will result directly from this RFI submission; rather, the Government will use collected information to assess market capabilities and inform future acquisition strategy. The RFI represents an early-stage market research effort with no specific quantity, timeline, or funding commitment disclosed.

The RFI seeks ideas and information regarding the modernization of a currently fielded survey system known as the Global Positioning System-Survey (GPS-S).

  1. Purpose

Product Manager (PdM) Fire Support Systems (FSS), Program Manager (PM) Ground Weapons Systems (PM GWS), Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC) requests information regarding industry’s capabilities and related experience to modernize the GPS-S.

The GPS-S is a system that enables Marine Artillery Sensor Sections to provide timely and accurate survey information by operating autonomously in rugged and urban terrain while supporting expeditionary operations.  This system currently consists of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components, custom Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) encrypted receivers, and the Trimble Business Center software.

Please see the attached RFI for more details.
