THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE MIDDLE DISTRICT OF PENNSYLVANIA RELEASES REQUEST FOR INFORMATION FOR NON-RESERVED PARKING SPACES FOR THE NEW U.S. COURTHOUSE IN HARRISBURG, PA

The United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania (MDPA) issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking private-sector feedback on employee, juror, and public parking services near the site of the new federal courthouse in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) is in the early stages of construction of the new federal courthouse located at Sixth and Reily streets in Harrisburg, with an opening date targeted in early 2022. The new 243,000-square-foot courthouse will contain eight courtrooms and 11 judges’ chambers. Tenants for this courthouse will include 253 full time employees including judges, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services System and the U.S. Marshals Service. The new courthouse operations will include a steady stream of visitors: jurors, legal teams and other court-related stakeholders.

The Midtown neighborhood – where the new courthouse is being built - does not currently offer adequate parking options necessary to support the daily needs for future courthouse operations. The recently released RFI will help the MDPA better understand if the market may be able to meet the courthouse’s parking needs by its anticipated 2022 opening.
