About this opportunity
The Missile Defense Agency issued a Request for Information on April 21, 2026 (Notice 26-MDA-12338) seeking capability solutions addressing Strategic Architecture Thrust Areas for the Missile Defense System-Next (MDS-Next) program, with white paper submissions due May 15, 2026 at 2359 Central Standard Time. This RFI is for planning and informational purposes only; no contract award is expected and submission is voluntary.
MDA is executing strategic planning to inform future capability development and investment decisions in response to the 2035+ projected threat environment. The Agency seeks fundamentally different capability constructs, architectures, or operational concepts rather than incremental improvements, including emerging technologies, cross-domain solutions, and non-traditional approaches that could change how the missile defense mission is executed. Responses will inform prioritization of capability areas and potential POM-28 investment decisions.
Respondents must submit concise pitch papers (maximum 5 pages) addressing Strategic Architecture Thrust Area alignment, detailed capability approach descriptions (functions, operations, timeline to initial operational fielding, comparison to current capabilities), operational impact demonstrating mission outcome improvements, technical feasibility and maturity assessment including Technology Readiness Level, rough order of magnitude cost estimates with major cost drivers, integration considerations with existing and planned systems, and small business considerations where applicable. The RFI encourages identification of solutions leveraging other Services, Agencies, or Departments and commercial sector adaptations.
Unclassified submissions go to mda.mbx.sppa@mail.mil; classified submissions require coordination. Respondents may request access to classified Strategic Architecture Thrust Areas briefing (SECRET), MDS-Next Characteristics briefing (CUI), and 1:1 technical exchanges with MDA subject matter experts by May 14, 2026 at 1200 Central Standard Time. The Government will use third-party contractor and Federally Funded Research and Development Center personnel and AI mechanisms for evaluation and will not compensate respondents.
