About this opportunity
NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) is exploring potential partnerships for the Kodiak Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) Engineering Test Unit and spaceflight hardware through a Request for Information (RFI). The agency seeks responses from domestic organizations, including industry, academia, investors, philanthropic organizations, and government entities, to identify alternate use cases that will advance domestic leadership in In-space Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing (ISAM) or other LiDAR technology capabilities. Respondents must address eight key areas: repurposing potential, integration capabilities, technological advancement opportunities, feasibility assessment, infrastructure requirements, implementation timeline, collaboration possibilities, and resource needs. The RFI is open to all domestic entities, with responses due by January 10, 2025, at 11:59 PM ET. Submissions must be electronically sent to russell.roder@nasa.gov in a searchable PDF format, with a copy to Odessia.h.becks@nasa.gov.
The RFI does not have a specific set-aside designation and is not currently tied to a specific incumbent contractor. The Kodiak LiDAR system comprises three main components: a Main Electronics Box, a Front End Box, and a Splice Box, with two hardware configurations available - a fully tested Engineering Test Unit and a partially assembled Flight Unit with design improvements. NASA will keep all submitted responses strictly confidential and will evaluate them to potentially proceed with individual discussions or release an Announcement for Partnership Proposals (AFPP) for a reimbursable Space Act Agreement. By February 28, 2025, GSFC/ETD will decide whether to issue an AFPP. While no specific award value or budget range is currently specified, the RFI is designed to explore potential collaborative opportunities in advancing LiDAR technology for commercial, civil, and national objectives.
