About this opportunity
The United States Marine Corps is conducting market research through a Request for Information (RFI) to identify qualified vendors capable of providing professional piano maintenance services, specifically for Steinway pianos. The scope of work involves comprehensive maintenance and repair services for a Hamburg Steinway & Sons Model D Grand Piano located at Marine Barracks Annex in Washington, D.C., including removing and replacing hammers and shanks with Hamburg Steinway parts, replacing backchecks, toning and voicing hammers, conducting full performance regulation, and re-weighing and balancing the piano's action. Contractors must demonstrate extensive experience with professional model Steinway pianos, requiring a minimum of 5 years of experience, with preference given to technicians hired by or trained through Steinway. The government intends to award a Firm-Fixed Price (FFP) contract, and contractors will be responsible for all travel and per diem expenses. The RFI response deadline is September 2, 2025, and this notice is issued solely for information and planning purposes to assist the government in determining the appropriate acquisition strategy.
This opportunity does not utilize any set-aside designations and no incumbent contractors are identified in the documentation. The work must be completed by April 1, 2026, and all services must be performed during normal working hours from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The contractor will require an escort to access the Marine Barracks Annex facility where the piano is located. While no specific contract value or budget range is disclosed in this pre-solicitation phase, the specialized nature of the work involving a high-end Hamburg Steinway Model D Grand Piano suggests a significant investment in maintaining this premium musical instrument. The timeline provides approximately seven months from the RFI due date to complete the comprehensive piano restoration and maintenance work.
