About this opportunity

NASA's Shared Services Center has published a Special Notice for the sole source procurement of repair services for four 500kW Yaskawa inverters located at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The work involves replacing capacitors, damaged power cores, installing DC-CT kits, replacing control boards, and other miscellaneous components as identified by previous field service assessments. NASA intends to award this contract directly to Yaskawa Solectria of Lawrence, Massachusetts, under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i), having determined that Yaskawa Solectria is the sole provider capable of performing these specialized repairs. The procurement will utilize commercial item procedures under FAR Parts 12 and 13, with a NAICS code of 335999 for miscellaneous electrical equipment manufacturing. The expected labor duration is less than one week, though the specific period of performance remains to be determined.

The primary objective of this procurement is to restore the functional integrity of the four industrial inverters through comprehensive repairs recommended by the manufacturer's technical expert. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications in writing to demonstrate their ability to perform the work, with responses due by 12:00 p.m. Central Standard Time on September 8, 2025. NASA will evaluate these submissions solely to determine whether to conduct the procurement on a competitive basis rather than sole source, though the decision to maintain sole source procurement remains at the government's discretion. The contractor will be required to verify proper inverter operation after equipment installation and determine if any additional repairs are needed beyond the initially identified components. Only written communications are acceptable for responses to this notice, and the procurement includes standard NASA ombudsman provisions for contractor concerns.
