About this opportunity
The Naval Supply Systems Command is seeking repair services for a 514nm laser source unit used in a Renishaw inVia Raman spectrometer at the Naval Postgraduate School's Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department. The repair work involves replacing a 514nm argon laser tube and upgrading an obsolete power supply to restore the instrument's full functionality, which is critical for materials analysis in laboratory courses and research activities. Contractors must demonstrate a minimum of five years of experience working with argon laser tubes and provide a fully functional laser source with nominal power output of 50 mW. The government will conduct quality assurance through a one-time inspection and performance testing upon delivery of the repaired unit. Interested small businesses must submit a 10-page capability statement by August 21, 2025, at 3:00 PM Eastern Time, including corporate descriptions, relevant experience citations, and demonstration of repair capabilities.
This opportunity is designated as a Total Small Business set-aside under NAICS code 811210, with large businesses explicitly instructed not to respond. The government anticipates awarding a Firm Fixed Price contract with performance occurring from contract award through September 30, 2025, with work to be completed at the contractor's facility. The performance period is expected to span September through October 2025, and the government will furnish the "Stellar-REN" 514nm laser source unit for repair. Respondents must provide one to three relevant work experience citations performed within the past three years, and the government is open to various small business socioeconomic certifications including 8(a), WOSB/EDWOSB, HUBZone, and SDVOSB. No incumbent contractor or specific award value has been identified in the available documentation.
Notice text
The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) owns the 514nm laser source for the Renishaw Raman spectrometer. This laser source support a wide range of materials laboratory courses, including MS3001, MS3002, MS4312, MS4601, and others. The Raman spectrometer is key instruments for analyzing the molecular footprint of materials, enabling detailed characterization of chemical composition, crystallinity, and molecular orientation. This instrument needs repair to optimize its functionality. Repairing the laser component is essential to restore full functionality of the system and maintain the lab’s capability to perform advanced material analysis critical to ongoing research and teaching activities.
