About this opportunity

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole-source firm fixed price purchase order to Iron Mountain Information Management LLC for records management and climate-controlled storage services, with a deadline for responsive comments of May 15, 2026. The procurement is restricted to one source under 41 U.S.C. 3304(a)(1) on the basis that only Iron Mountain meets FDA and European Medicines Agency regulatory requirements for long-term maintenance of clinical trial files.

The contract covers secure storage and temperature control for approximately 500 sealed boxes of hard-copy clinical trial participant files in a climate-controlled vault in Atlanta, Georgia. Iron Mountain uniquely provides chain-of-custody maintenance, inventory filing systems supporting archival and ad-hoc retrieval, and facility approval by regulatory authorities. The estimated contract value is $387,828.59 for Fiscal Year 2026, structured as one base year plus four option periods and funded through Operational and Maintenance Activities. The existing prior contract with Iron Mountain has been in place since May 3, 2023 and expires May 2, 2026. Files must be maintained through 2034 to support continued FDA and EMA licensure of an Ebola vaccine. The contracting officer approved the justification for other than full and open competition on April 17, 2026.
