About this opportunity
The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking to procure rail-mounted tower cranes to support waterfront infrastructure improvements at the U.S. Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore, Maryland. The agency is inviting industry representatives to an Industry Day event scheduled for January 13, 2026, to discuss project requirements and capabilities. The cranes will be installed at three designated piers (Pier 2, Pier 3, and South Wharf) to facilitate the maintenance and repair of new Offshore Patrol Cutters and National Security Cutters expected to arrive in 2030. Technical specifications include a primary crane on Pier 3 with a 75,000-pound lifting capacity at 105-foot shaft and an auxiliary hoist with 155-foot reach capability. The Coast Guard is employing a design-build approach for the procurement, and industry feedback is being sought during the pre-solicitation phase through one-on-one sessions with technical representatives. Registration for the Industry Day closed on December 29, 2025, with confirmation sent by January 6, 2026; the event included a site visit and briefing presentations at 2401 Hawkins Point Road, Baltimore, Maryland.
No set-aside designations are being used for this procurement opportunity. The Coast Guard anticipates ordering three cranes simultaneously with a procurement timeline spanning 2026 through 2030, with each crane requiring approximately 2.2 years for planning, design, manufacturing, transportation, and commissioning. Delivery schedules project the first crane at 84 weeks, the second at 96 weeks, and the third at 108 weeks from the order date. Twelve industry representatives from major crane manufacturers and related equipment companies, including Sumitomo Heavy, Liebherr, Konecranes, and US Hoists, attended the January 13, 2026 Industry Day event. While no specific contract award value has been disclosed in the pre-solicitation materials, the multi-year, three-crane procurement involving specialized rail-mounted tower cranes represents a substantial infrastructure modernization project. A Request for Information document was posted on December 11, 2025, to solicit detailed industry input on technical capabilities and project requirements prior to formal solicitation.
