About this opportunity

The Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Procurement Office East issued a notice of intent on May 5, 2026, to sole source a pathology lab testing contract to University of Miami pursuant to FAR 6.302-1, with capability statements due by May 15, 2026, at 4:00 PM EST. The Miami VA Medical Center requires specialized and urgent referral pathology lab testing services; the VA asserts that University of Miami's close proximity to the medical center enables timely sample processing and prevents morphological changes and loss of stability that would occur with distant referral labs.

The contract will be firm fixed price for one year using simplified acquisition procedures. While this is a sole-source intent, the VA solicits capability statements from any responsible firm that believes it can meet the requirement and holds appropriate licensure and certification. Responses must be submitted in writing via email to Contracting Officer John Quijada Jr at john.quijadajr@va.gov and include company name, SAM UEI number, address, point of contact information (title, phone, email), and business size. The acquisition falls under NAICS 621511 (Medical Laboratories) with a size standard of $41.5 million; the PSC is Q301. The VA retains discretion to determine whether to compete the procurement based on submitted responses.
