About this opportunity
The United States Marine Corps is conducting market research for a Platoon Water Purification System-Mobile (PWPS-M) to replace the current Portable Water Purification System used by Fleet Marine Forces. The program seeks to enhance water purification capabilities by consolidating the existing two-case system into a single ruggedized, hard-sided polymer transit case that can be easily transported and operated by one Marine. The system must purify water from fresh, brackish, and saltwater sources at a minimum rate of 15 gallons per hour, with an objective rate of 35 gallons per hour, while meeting stringent water quality standards. Interested vendors are required to submit responses by April 4, 2025, addressing production availability, commercial market status, estimated production rates, system costs, and potential small business program qualifications. The Marine Corps is evaluating potential sources based on technical capabilities, production feasibility, and alignment with the system's mobility and operational requirements.
The procurement is not set aside for any specific business category, allowing open competition across the commercial and service industry machinery manufacturing sector. The Marine Corps plans to procure approximately 300 PWPS-M systems through a 5-year Firm Fixed Price Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract. The system must operate with 24VDC power, withstand environmental temperatures ranging from -30F to 160F, and be transportable by various military vehicles and aircraft. The technical specifications require the system to have a seven-year expected useful life and fit within specific dimensional constraints of no more than 80 pounds and 50x30x30 inches. While no incumbent contractor is mentioned, the procurement represents a significant opportunity for manufacturers specializing in water purification equipment to support Marine Corps operational capabilities.
Notice text
Program Manager, Engineer Systems, Marine Corps Systems Command (MARCORSYSCOM) is conducting market research for the potential sources of a Platoon Water Purification System-Mobile (PWPS-M) as a replacement to current Portable Water Purification System (PWPS).
The PWPS is extensively utilized for platoon water purification support within the Fleet Marine Forces. This system currently comprises two Pelican cases: one housing the purification unit capable of processing 15 gallons of water per hour, and the other containing Stock List-3 (SL-3) equipment. The PWPS is designed to meet the water needs of a platoon-sized unit.
We envision the PWPS-M to enhance mobility by consolidating the system into a single Pelican case or equivalent ruggedized, hard-sided, impact resistant polymer transit case. Our goal is to create a more compact design that allows one Marine to easily transport, lift, and operate the system independently. The PWPS will be capable of providing potable water from fresh, brackish, and saltwater sources to support platoon operations.
