About this opportunity
NASA's Shared Services Center seeks purchase of silicon-based photonics integrated circuits (PICs) for laboratory testing in support of the AstroPIC project, with a sole source intent directed to Applied Nanotools and a capability submission deadline of June 22, 2026. The procurement is structured under FAR 12.102(a) as a commercial item acquisition using FAR Part 12 procedures.
Applied Nanotools, located at 11421 Saskatchewan Drive NW, 4th Floor, Edmonton, Alberta T6G 2M9 Canada, is identified as the sole provider of the required silicon-based photonics integrated circuits. Place of performance is NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, California. The NAICS code is 334413, Semiconductor and Related Device Manufacturing; the PSC is 6695, Combination and Miscellaneous Instruments.
The Statement of Work specifies fabrication of 56 photonic integrated circuit devices using electron-beam write lithography, diced from ten NASA-provided silicon photonic layout design files. Devices must meet Silicon-on-Insulator construction specifications including partial etch at 70nm depth for gratings and full etch at 220nm depth for waveguides, oxide cladding of 2.2 ± 0.2 microns via PECVD, tri-layer metallization (TiW and Au) on five wafers for thermal phase shifters, and deep thermal isolation trenches exceeding 250 microns. For devices containing MEMS structures, additional requirements include direct metallization, via openings, and MEMS release processing. Delivery to NASA Ames Building N255 Central Receiving is required approximately 16 weeks after receipt of order.
Interested organizations may submit written capabilities and qualifications by 3:00 PM Central Standard Time on June 22, 2026. The Government will evaluate responses solely to determine whether to conduct the procurement on a competitive basis. NASA FAR Supplement Clause 1852.215-84, Ombudsman, applies.
