About this opportunity

The FDA Office of Acquisition and Grant Services is soliciting a 360-degree combination seam gauge system capable of automated measurement of seam thickness and countersink depth for metal food containers, with quotes due September 14, 2026 at 4:00 PM EDT and questions due September 11 at 12:00 PM EDT. This is unrestricted, full and open competition with no set-aside.

Place of performance and delivery is the FDA Laboratory at 6502 S. Archer Road, Bedford Park, Illinois. The system must perform 360-degree automated scanning or multi-point measurements around the full container circumference with a minimum of 50 data points, accommodate standard food can body diameters of 52 to 153 mm and heights of 55 to 240 mm, and achieve measurement resolution of 0.001 mm for seam thickness and 0.01 mm for countersink depth. Measurement accuracy must be within 0.01 mm for thickness and 0.02 mm for countersink. The system must provide digital data export via RS232 or USB and integrate with existing SEAMSCAN XTS-III systems and standard SPC tracking software.

The NAICS code is 334519, Other Measuring and Controlling Device Manufacturing, with a 600-employee small business threshold. The PSC code is 6640, Laboratory Equipment and Supplies.
