About this opportunity

The National Park Service, a civilian agency within the Department of the Interior, has issued a Special Notice for the purchase of two Absolyte rechargeable batteries at Yosemite National Park in California. This Combined Synopsis/Solicitation (RFQ 140P856Q0039) is being conducted as a simplified acquisition for commercial items under Federal Acquisition Regulations Subpart 12.6. The notice constitutes the only solicitation issued; no separate written solicitation will be provided to interested vendors. The anticipated contract value is $20,956.00 and will be awarded as a firm fixed price contract. This is a 100% Total Small Business Set Aside with a NAICS code of 335910 (Battery Manufacturing) and a small business size standard of 1,250 employees.

The procurement addresses Yosemite National Park's requirement to replace critical backup power system batteries that support essential communications infrastructure at two critical nodes within the park. The brand name requirement for Absolyte batteries is justified based on compatibility considerations, as continuing with like-for-like replacements ensures full system integration and operational continuity while minimizing installation risks and costly modifications. Interested small business contractors must submit quotations by April 8, 2026, to be considered for award. Market research has indicated that multiple qualified suppliers of stationary VRLA (Valve-Regulated Lead-Acid) battery systems exist, though supply chain constraints and limited inventory are affecting the broader product category. Eligible contractors must meet the small business size standard of 1,250 employees and be capable of supplying the specified Absolyte batteries within the solicitation timeline.
