About this opportunity

NASA's Shared Services Center (NSSC) is seeking event space and related services to host the 2nd International XRISM Science Symposium scheduled for June 1-4, 2027, with approximately 300 international attendees. The procuring agency intends to issue a sole source contract to the University of Michigan, determining it is the sole provider capable of meeting the government's needs. Key contract requirements include providing event space with audio-visual equipment, establishing a registration fee collection mechanism to offset costs, ensuring Wi-Fi access throughout the venue, supplying food and beverages during morning and afternoon breaks, identifying nearby restaurant options, confirming the venue's walkability from hotels and dining locations, and arranging a separate banquet venue. The government will evaluate interested organizations based on their capabilities and qualifications to determine whether to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis rather than sole source. The submission deadline for capability statements is May 1, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. Central Standard Time, with all correspondence required to reference ID #80NSSC26931062Q.

This solicitation carries no set-aside designation and identifies the University of Michigan as the intended sole source contractor. No award value or budget range is specified in the solicitation notice. The symposium will accommodate approximately 300 international scientists participating in a four-day event as part of an international agreement between NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) to disseminate XRISM mission science findings. Performance will be located in Detroit, Michigan, with the organizing university based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The procurement falls under NAICS code 611310 (Colleges, Universities, and Professional Schools) and will be conducted using FAR Part 13 procedures for non-commercial items or services.
