About this opportunity
The Defense Health Agency Contracting Activity (DHACA) at Fort Detrick, Maryland has issued a Notice of Intent to Award for sole source equipment maintenance services. This special notice, posted on April 13, 2026, announces the agency's intent to award a Firm-Fixed-Price contract to Pickering Laboratories, Inc. under FAR 6.302-1(c) statutory authority. The contract covers non-personal services for maintenance of Pickering Laboratories, Inc. manufactured instruments, specifically the ONYX PCX chromatography equipment. The Defense Health Agency is pursuing this sole source procurement because Pickering Laboratories, Inc. is the Original Equipment Manufacturer and the sole authorized provider of genuine parts, software, supplies, and service support in the United States.
The contract's primary objective is to ensure the laboratory can maintain its ONYX PCX equipment in optimal operating condition through annual preventive maintenance, repair support visits, parts replacement, and software support, all of which are mandatory to meet laboratory quality and accreditation standards. The contract will operate on a Firm-Fixed-Price basis funded through Operation and Maintenance accounts, with a base period running from July 15, 2026 through July 14, 2027. Due to Pickering Laboratories, Inc.'s exclusive status as the OEM and sole authorized service provider, no other contractors are eligible to compete for this work. The special notice was posted on April 13, 2026 with a deadline of April 29, 2026. Without this service contract in place, the laboratory faces increased equipment downtime and compromised analytical capabilities, as non-contractual repairs prove costly and time-consuming due to lengthy procurement processes.
