About this opportunity
The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Subsistence is seeking vendors to produce the Performance Readiness Bar, a specialized nutritional supplement designed for Army recruits during basic training. This snack bar is fortified with calcium and vitamin D3 to promote muscle growth, strengthen bones, and reduce stress fractures among military personnel in training environments. The agency is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) to gather market research on potential suppliers' capabilities to produce and deliver these bars. Vendors must demonstrate the ability to manufacture three potential flavors (Chocolate, Tart Cherry, and Salted Caramel) and meet strict delivery requirements of 60 calendar days for orders ranging from 100,000 to 300,000+ bars per location. The RFI requires detailed company information, points of contact, prior government contracting experience, and technical capabilities, with responses due by February 5, 2025.
Currently, the Performance Readiness Bar is being delivered to four primary military training locations: Fort Benning in Georgia, Fort Jackson in South Carolina, Fort Leonard-Wood in Missouri, and Fort Sill in Oklahoma. The solicitation does not specify a specific set-aside designation, indicating the opportunity is open to a broad range of vendors. While no specific award value is mentioned, the potential order quantities suggest a significant procurement volume, with the possibility of expanding to additional training locations. The bars are intended to be consumed at night as a supplemental nutritional product, providing additional nutrients beyond standard meal offerings. Technical specifications for the bars are available through DLA's website, and the agency emphasizes that this RFI does not constitute a commitment to future business, but rather serves as a market research tool to assess vendor capabilities and interest.
