About this opportunity

The Defense Health Agency issued a sole-source procurement notice on July 14, 2026, for Madigan Army Medical Center to award a non-competitive contract to Cepheid for maintenance and repair services on government-owned GeneXpert analyzers, with a response deadline of July 20, 2026.

Cepheid is the sole authorized provider of maintenance and repair services for GeneXpert systems in the United States (excluding territories). The justification for sole-source procurement rests on Cepheid's exclusive control of proprietary technology, including patented cartridge technology, closed-system assay design, and proprietary analytical software; no other vendor is authorized to manufacture, distribute, service, or support the GeneXpert analyzer or its consumables.

The procurement is structured as a Firm Fixed Price, 5-Year IDIQ contract valued at $1,042,200 over the full term (annual value $208,440). The contract vehicle is a simplified acquisition under FAR Part 12 commercial acquisition rules. A Notice of Intent to Sole Source closed on July 17, 2026, allowing potential vendors to submit capability statements meeting minimum requirements. The work falls under NAICS 811210 (Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance) and PSC J065 (Medical Equipment Maintenance and Repair).

Notice text

Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC) requires a non-personal services contract to provide
Maintenance and Repair services for the Government owned equipment, Cepheid GeneXpert systems and
components. Only one company can provide the services required because the services ordered are unique
and highly specialized. Cepheid is currently the only authorized provider of service for GeneXpert
systems to customers within the United States, excluding territories.
The System's functionality relies on Cepheid-owed intellectual property, including patented cartridge
technology, closed-system assay design, and proprietary analytical software. No other vendor is
authorized to manufacture, distribute, service, or support the GeneXpert analyzer or its associated
consumables.
