About this opportunity
The Department of the Navy Naval Supply Systems Command is seeking to procure 572 units of a specific aircraft material (NSN 7R-1680-015817867-E7) with a critical engineering requirement. This procurement is unique because it demands Government source approval prior to contract award, given the flight-critical nature of the item. Potential contractors must submit detailed technical information through the NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS) Source Approval Information Brochures, demonstrating their capability to produce the part. Only sources previously approved by the Government for this specific item will be considered, and any new source must undergo a rigorous qualification process approved by the cognizant Government engineering activity. The pre-solicitation notice indicates that offers failing to provide complete source approval documentation will be automatically disqualified, with a proposal response deadline of May 27, 2025.
The solicitation does not indicate any specific set-aside designations, and no incumbent contractors are mentioned in the notice. While the exact award value is not specified, the procurement involves 572 units delivered FOB origin, suggesting a potentially significant contract value. The procurement process emphasizes technical capabilities and engineering expertise over competitive pricing, with a focus on maintaining high-quality standards for flight-critical components. The Navy's approach suggests a preference for contractors with proven manufacturing and repair knowledge specific to this unique aircraft material. Contractors without prior approval must be prepared to undergo a potentially lengthy source approval process, which could impact their ability to meet the Government's timeline for procurement.
