About this opportunity
NASA's Shared Services Center issued a Special Notice on October 5, 2026, announcing a sole-source procurement intent for two optical filters (solid etalons) from Lightmachinery Inc., and invited capability statements from other interested vendors by October 8, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. Central Standard Time to determine whether to conduct the procurement on a competitive basis.
The etalons must be manufactured from fused silica with a free spectral range of 400 pm and full-width half-max transmission bandwidth of 40 pm ±10 pm. Each unit requires a center wavelength of 467.8423 nm (vacuum) at 45°C with a tolerance of +0/−30 pm, maximum transmission exceeding 80% (goal >90%), and a field of view exceeding 8–9 mrad. Devices must operate across 45–60°C with a temperature tuning rate of approximately 2.9 pm/°C. The clear aperture must exceed 26.8 mm within a total outer diameter of 45.0 ±0.1 mm and total thickness of 17.018 ±0.035 mm. Lead time is two months. Performance occurs at NASA Langley Research Center. The procurement uses FAR Part 12 commercial item procedures under NAICS 333314 (Optical Instrument and Lens Manufacturing). NASA will evaluate capability statements solely to determine whether to compete the effort; price quotes will not be reviewed. Oral communications are not acceptable. Vendors must reference the Notice ID in submissions. NASA FAR Supplement Clause 1852.215-84 (Ombudsman) applies.
